If you worried about falling off the bike, you'd never get on"
- Lance Armstrong.
Who can forget the six sixes in an over in T20 World Cup and the will power to fight back when he was spitting blood in the middle of a World Cup Match.
And that man is India's all-time favourite Cricketer Yuvraj Singh.
The hard hitter of a cricket ball to the hard hitter of Cancer, here goes Yuvraj Singh's inspirational story.
Yuvraj Singh was born on 12 December 1981at Chandigarh, India. He is the son of former Indian fast bowler and Punjabi actor Yograj Singh.
Yuvraj started his International Career in the year 2000. In his whole career, Yuvraj has 8,701 runs and 111 wickets to his name in ODIs, with 1,177 runs and 28 wickets in T20Is.
He was particularly noted for his hitting of the ball and his fielding.
He was the Man of the Tournament in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, and one of the top performers at the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, both of which India won.
One of the most impactful incidents in Yuvraj's career was the 'Six sixes in an over' against Stuart Broad in ICC T20 World Cup 200 In the same match, he set the record for the fastest fifty in Twenty20 Internationals and in all Twenty20 cricket, reaching 50 runs in 12 balls.
During the 2011 World Cup, he became the first player to take a 5-wicket haul and score a 50 in the same World Cup match.
During his career, he also became the Vice-Captain of Indian Cricket Team for ODI 2007-2008.
During his career, he was known not only to cricket lovers but the whole world knew him. His fame was never less than a Bollywood Superstar.
The big and darker face of his life came in the year 2011. There was the time of the World Cup when he would wake up in the middle of the night and would find it hard to breathe and used to cough immensely.
He had incidents of spitting blood in the middle of a World Cup match. But his passion towards his team made him stand in the ground and play the rest with fighting spirit.
After the World Cup, he scanned his chest and identified Tumour and later found it as Cancer.
Yuvraj Singh was infected with Cell Cancer.
Yuvraj himself told, "It was the Darkest Period of my Life".
He was doing Chemotherapy as well as Ayurveda in the whole duration of his Cancer.
He was so inspired with Lance Amstrong who I referred with a quote in the beginning. Lance Amstrong is an American former professional road racing cyclist, he was diagnosed with a potentially fatal metastatic testicular cancer. After his recovery, he founded the Lance Armstrong Foundation (now the Livestrong Foundation) to assist other cancer survivors.
Yuvraj was a greatly inspired with Lance Armstrong and he used to read books about him during his Cancer Period.
On April 2012, he made a comeback to T20 against New Zealand.
In 2012, Yuvraj was conferred with the Arjuna Award, India's second-highest sporting award by the Government of India. In 2014, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian honour. At the 2014 IPL auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore bought Yuvraj for an all-time high price of ₹14 crore and, in 2015, the Delhi Daredevils bought him for ₹16 crore making him the most expensive player ever to be sold in the IPL.
On 10 June 2019, Yuvraj announced his retirement from international cricket.
He said that after retirement, he would work fully on the YOUWECAN foundation for Cancer patients.
By this,
We all know that Yuvraj had been a great asset for the Indian Cricket team and by saluting for his courageous innings of his I would like to continue with a quote said by Yuvi.
"There were times when chemo would eat my body, but I told myself that I have the strength and courage to win and come out stronger."
